Terminal City All-Stars make their WFTDA mark at The Big O

The Emerald City Rollergirls and Derby Deeds teamed up last weekend to host the first ever Big O tournament in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is known for its rain, environmentalism and roller derby, and it delivered on all accounts. The tournament was impeccably well-organized, the hosts were absolutely incredible, and it was a green event (food vendors used compostable foodware, recycling and compost bins lined the venue, and they provided water filling stations instead of water bottles to reduce waste). Swoon.

Making their debut at #23 in WFTDA’s tough Western region, the Terminal City All-Stars made the trek down to Eugene to see how we’d fare against some of our competitors in the race to regional playoffs. Only the top 10 teams (out of the 38 teams in the uber-competitive Western region) get to compete in the regional playoffs, each year. The TCRG All Stars *just* got accepted into WFTDA. And we *just* got ranked. But we want it. We don’t care if it’s crazy. We can smell it.

Or maybe that’s just our gear bags.

Either way, it can be hard to know where we really rank, way up here in Canada so far from the other teams in our region. The Big O tournament presented a perfect opportunity for us to begin to get a sense of where we stand. And we stood tall.

We were set up with 3 bouts against teams from Idaho, Colorado and California. Having never played in a tournament before, we were thankful for the guidance of coach Mack the Mouth and skaters Luludemon and 8 Mean Wheeler who were fresh off of a trip to the first ever roller derby World Cup as part of Team Canada. They let us in on some trade secrets to help keep us hydrated, relaxed and bout-ready throughout the tournament.

Our first bout kicked off the tournament and we came out strong, claiming a decisive 228-97 win over the unranked Humboldt Rollergirls. Our second bout was much closer. We spent far too much time in the penalty box, and our opponents took advantage of our sparse pack. In the end, we eked out a respectable 161-115 win against the up-and-coming Treasure Valley Rollergirls. In our final bout against the #18 ranked Pikes Peak Rollergirls, our controlled calm paid off in a 194-94 victory to round off our weekend with 3 Big O wins!

But we’re not getting big heads about it. In addition to our first experience with tournament play, this was the first bout on the team for some of our newer roster additions (the TCRG All Stars roster is made up of 20 of the top players in the league and is re-drafted every 3 months). We’re still pretty green and there are some fierce teams vying for playoff spots. Overall, the All Stars came home from the Big O with a little more confidence, a bit more experience, and a whole lot of excitement about what the rest of this season holds. WFTDA’s next quarter rankings won’t be released for another couple of months, but we’ve begun our climb! Next up: the Wild West Showdown in Bremerton, WA where we take on the Santa Cruz Rollergirls (ranked #15), the Emerald City Rollergirls (ranked #12) and the Jet City Rollergirls (ranked #8).

We'd like to do the same for

We'd like to do the same for our pups, but they won't sit still long enough for us to put http://www.coachoutletftconline.com/ coach outlet store online on them. (You know we'd share those pics if we could get them!I got my notepad out and started frantically scribbling what was going on in my head. Well, it means he's doing a confirmed, honest-to-god, coach outlet runway show-instead of his usual private, no-coach crossbody bags-photos-allowed presentations-for the first time since he launched his eponymous http://www.cocoachfactoryoutlet.com/ coach factory line in 2010.But who could hold a grudge against those bright blues, cheerful yellows and coach factory hues? Floral denim begged to be paired with breezy blouses while a floral coach swingpack and lightwashed denim moto jacket made my puffy coach factory online purse feel oppressive.Coach outlet, Katie Holmes and Kerry Washington also dressed to impress over the holidays. This sexy coach wristlets is even sultrier than normal thanks to the barely-dressed http://www.usa-coachoutletonline.com/ coach outlet online surrounding these gorgeous ladies.Only one solution - it's time for a proper wristlet that's more thought-out. Whether you want to style it up for a day at the office or layer it underneath your favorite party dress, watch on to see how to make the most out of one turtleneck sweater, the traditional silhouettes are aided by a distinctive pallet of coach factory outlet colours and further impressive detailing..
