(Refling for those of you that don't know me!) For the past few years I have had my own small personal training studio ( http://www.the-garage-fitness.com) and have been doing personal training and some classes such as bootcamp (on the beach on the Sunshine Coast where I currently spend most of my time) and indoor sports conditioning, weight training, body sculpt, etc. My background is radio broadcasting (news and copywriting) and marketing doing such things as writing advertising, business communication, and prepress. I've also written, directed, produced and performed in a number of theatre (Fringe) productions and a short film. I've also sung professionally (jazz/R&B) for close to 30 years... I'm currently sourcing gyms I can train clients at and perhaps teach some classes in in Vancouver as I am transitioning back to the mainland for half of my week. Bootcamp or personal training anyone? Right now Spartacus on Commercial Drive is looking good...

Gawd, the national anthems we normally hear are nice.... but the regular old anthem can be boring. No knock to the performers, they are great. I love them for doing it. It is just that.... this is ROLLER DERBY! The anthem happens at such a critical point in the build up to the bout, and what we get is an anthem naptime? Talk about buzzkill. What would rock Verna, is if you got the crowd clapping at a good and peppy tempo, and belted out a really fun anthem that we want to sing along with. Here is a slightly more peppy version, with acoustic, which would require the sound technician to set up the second mic on a stand for the guitar, or patch in an electric acoustic into the aux. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMMUXH5b4XI

Ahoy! I'm H-Bomb. I'm a photojournalist and I've been at The Chilliwack Progress community newspaper for almost 11 years. Since I'm the only photog at my paper, I cover everything. Doing what I do, I know that if you want something covered you have to contact the media every time you have an event. As a keen photographer, I've been to several national photojournalism conferences over the years, and as a result, I personally know may photo peeps in the industry (mostly in Canada) including dudes at Reuters, CP and the big dailies. I took on the roll of photographer liaison this past season and I was able to get some photogs I know to cover our bouts which resulted in community, provincial and international coverage. Woohoo! I think it's essential to get media coverage at all of our bouts, whether it's a preview or actual game coverage. I also fill in for my editor when he's on holidays, so I have many years of editing and newspaper design experience. Within the next year, I'm going to design and create my own website, so I'll get some experience with that as well. And in my personal life… I'm a self-proclaimed nerd and I like things like puzzles (all kinds), board games, beading, knitting, reading, colouring and being the handywoman around the house.

I write lots of emails... and boss people around.
Oh, and at my "real" job in addition to both of the above, I'm an architect. I work at a large design-build firm in Vancouver, currently doing commercial & public institution work. Independent from my job, I designed a single family home in Squamish last year that my brother (who is a fireman and a general contractor) built and lives in. And I seem to do a fair number of "basement suite conversions" or "garage loft conversions" for friends.
I made a 3-D model of the kerrisdale rink floor, complete with track and proposed beer garden setup for the bout comm's proposal to the rink and the cops for our liquor license last year! so nerdy, but effective!
Unless the league comes into a few mill, I'm probably not gonna be designing our new derby-dome anytime soon, but I can assist individuals with spatial design questions (will our track fit in this space? will this floor fit in our storage unit? can I make it so I never have to interact with my mother-in-law ever again, even though she still lives in our house?) and the planning / permit process if you're doing renos etc.

My official title at work is Administrative Coordinator and Opal Support Specialist. 1 part office mananger, 1 part in house database support, 1 part IT and tech support, 1 part general babysitting fundraisers and social workers. I work for the MS Society of Canada. Non profit world = learning to do all kinds of crazy stuff in short time periods with little support. If you need something crazy hard done on a short deadline, I can probably help you with it. I also own my own photography business - my specialty is Boudoir Photography, but if you have something interesting (that isn't a wedding) I could probably be persuaded to shoot for you. We're called Busty and Mia's House of Burlesque (est 2005 - before I'd even seen a burlesque show yet! haha.) Busty and Mia have a pretty awesome ongoing art project: http://uberslut.com/Working on version 2.0 of the website now..... funtimes. Nudes are the coolest. xoBusty

Hey there, Joining this convo late in the game... not much time for the forum these days, but i am trying to stay somewhat in the loop. I have been meaning to read this thread since it started and am so amazed by all the talent we have in our league. And, i know that the majority of people posting her are new to the scene and that within our pool of derby peeps we are almost ready to take over the world! I work in animation and have for close to the last 10 years. I have worked mostly in colour design, but dabbled in other areas as well. I currently work as a production coordiator as running our bout com has taught me that i really like to run the show! We are currently in need of a location designer, and will also be hiring for other positions in the future. If you know of anyone who might be interested and skilled, let me know!
