This weekend the Terminal City All-Stars once again head stateside to continue our determined climb up the West Region WFTDA roller derby rankings. The Wild West Showdown, hosted by Bremerton, Washington's Slaughter County Rollergirls pits the All-Stars against three mid-ranked teams sure to challenge.
Still floating a couple of inches above the track after our three big fat wins at the recent Big O
Tournament in Eugene, OR, the TCRG team needs to follow through here with some consistency and grit to seal a spot in the top 15 for the next WFTDA rankings release. We sit at #23 as of January 2012, but have decisively beat teams ranked 18th and 21st already this season, and are undefeated in 5 straight bouts! We're pretty much over the moon about our season so far, but we know wehave our work cut out for us in the Wild West.
The marquis Saturday night bout slot at 8pm March 3rd sees the All-Stars matched up against the Emerald City Rollergirls' Skatesaphrenics (#12) of Eugene, OR. At our last meeting in Eugene back in June 2011, a short TCRG bench of just 9 skaters helped give Emerald City the win. However, ECRG suffered two tough losses as as the hosts of the Big O, including a heartbreaker to Silicon Valley (14), losing by just two points. With a full and healthy bench, the All-Stars might have the edge this time around.
In the All-Stars' second bout, we'll face a big, skilled team in the Jet City Bombers (#8), the highest ranked team we've ever contended against in WFTDA play. Jet City, from Everett, WA, had two tough bouts at the Big O, dropping one to Silicon Valley (14), 124-122, and barely sneaking past upstart Wasatch (17) 117-112. They're sure to drop a few notches in the next official rankings issued, and TCRG are going to do everything we can to make sure that happens! No doubt Jet City will have a different plan in mind, and the TCRG will have to pull together as a team to defeat this veteran juggernaut.
While the Terminal City All-Stars sent Pike's Peak packing with a 100-point victory on Day 2 at The Big O, Pike's sank Santa Cruz' Boardwalk Bombshells the next day, 153-125.So the odds seem to be in TCRG's favour against SCDG (15) in our third Wild West bout, unless Santa Cruz has something up their sleeves...er... wristguards. The whistle blows at 6pm Sunday –we'll see which team can bring the intensity at the end of a long weekend of derby punishment.
The Terminal City All-Stars' Wild West Showdown schedule:
vs. Emerald City (12) – Saturday March 3rd at 8pm
vs. Jet City (8) – Sunday March 4th at 1pm
vs. Santa Cruz (15) – Sunday March 4th at 6pm
